The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will be fully unveiled on August 14 (Monday), but founder and CEO Lei Jun offers an early peek at the refined design of the phone right now. The Jun describes it with three words: slim, elegant and premium.
The photos were posted on Jun’s Twitter account as well as on Weibo. Here’s a look:
Zooming in on the four Leica cameras reveals the focal lengths at the near and far ends – 15mm ultra wide and 115mm periscope. The old Mix Fold 2 also had a 15mm ultra wide, however, it was equipped with only an 8MP 45mm portrait camera (2x zoom), so going up to 115mm is an impressive jump.
Only a few of the horizontal foldables that launched this year have a periscope – the Google Pixel Fold (112mm) and the Huawei Mate X3 (125mm). Unfortunately, neither phone is widely available (even though only one of these companies is under trade sanctions). The other folds stick to the 2-3x zoom range. Anyway, there isn’t much hope for an international release of the Mix Fold 3 either.
Here are some images of the outgoing Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 for comparison:
Did you notice that the CEO described the new model as “slim”? The 2022 foldable was already quite slender at 11.2mm when closed – well below the 13.4mm of the Galaxy Z Fold5, for example. The Honor Magic V2 (9.9mm closed) might have some competition.
A few last words on what to expect – based on leaks, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is said to have an IP rating, an under display camera inside, plus 67W wired and 50W wireless charging.
